I’m not someone who weighs myself.
Not because I have a sordid past with the scale, but because it doesn’t do anything for me. I am way more connected to how I feel in my clothes, what I see when I look in the mirror, and if can do all my moves (splits, backbends, handstands, duh!)
AND I’ll be honest, because that’s what I do, I’ve been weighing myself recently and it’s been WILD! Again, I’ve never used a scale regularly and holy smokes does everything fluctuate all the time. If I were tied to a certain number, if I were white knuckling it to whatever number lbs, I would be absolutely bananas right now.
But I’m not. I’m observing. I think I may have a goal in mind, but I also know that this body isn’t my old body. This body has grown and birthed two babies. This body is dealing with new and exciting and heartbreaking things all the time. This body has different needs!
This came up in a recent class I taught. Sometimes we realize exercises or stretches we used to love don’t do much for us anymore and something we used to barely register is now super intense. I feel like way about side bending. Before kids I thought they were kind of useless? After kids, I’ve never felt something do effing glorious! Who knew ANYTHING could feel that DELICIOUS?!?!?!?!
And that’s because my body has changed. My body has new needs! And it’s important that I keep doing all sorts of moves, new moves, old moves, all the moves to check in and see what;s working for me NOW. What works for me in this body, this life, this moment. Because if I don’t check in and gather information from this ever evolving body that is constantly adapting to new challenges I won’t be able to meet my needs.
And my needs deserve to be met!
And grrrrl, you DESERVE to have your needs met! It’s your GD RIGHT to have your needs met! And I’m going to make sure you do!

Jumping on a trampoline with your kids!
Staying horizontal and taking a nap!
That part is up to you! I’ll make sure you have everything you need to make it happen.
