Last week was international women’s day and I loved seeing all of the content and support going around. I don’t know if you noticed, but I didn’t do a whole thing about it. I’m not good at these…days. I don’t know when they are, I’m not on top of my shit enough to plan ahead, and then they’re here and I’m not ready! But at the same time, it’s ok that I don’t do the days. Did you even notice I didn’t?
And maybe you did notice I didn’t, but did it make you think less of me? My work? My passion about women? My dedication to empowering women and sharing knowledge?
Right? It’s ok! It’s ok if you don’t nail each day of spirit week at your kid’s school. Ours was last week and we had a strong suggestion of each theme going on. Everett didn’t care and I didn’t either so…whatever.
And I’m here for you if spirit week and the “days” are your jam! I support you and I love your enthusiasm and I support you!
We don’t all have to ride in the same lane. We can stay in our lane, we can turn on our signal (safety first) and change lanes when we want or need to, we can respect all the lanes and take care of them too!
So today I want to share two things going on that I AM HERE FOR! I’m celebrating, caring about, and sharing two things that are super important for women; our bodies and our lives.
The Skimm just launched their new initiative called The State of Women and holy hell. THIS IS IT! I cannot wait to keep reading everything and learning and supporting the living daylights out of The Skimm, Carly, Danielle, and the whole freaking team.
According to The Skimm…
Overall, employed women still earn 83% of men’s salaries.
Congress has a record number of women, who together still comprise only 28%.
74% of millennial women agreed with the statement, “I am always adjusting my life to accommodate others (e.g., family, co-workers, friends, etc.)”
74% of women said, “Society treats women like second-class citizens”
I encourage you to subscribe to The Skimm and the other media channels you love and trust to be informed.
Which brings me to the second thing I want to share.
Priyanka Jain - Co-founder and CEO of Evvy. Who I met through Carly from the Skimm! Everything is connected, right? Right. Anyways! Evvy is a tech company building a new understanding of the female body through the Vaginal Microbiome. Yea, I said it. The Vaginal Microbiome.
And guess what…She’s this week’s guest on Myth of Motherhood the podcast. LISTEN HERE!
What do these things have in common besides that I met one through the other? They are inviting, encouraging, and providing access to information, education, and knowledge about our body and our lives. When we have information we can ask better questions, we can get more information, we can advocate for ourselves and each other.
Which we NEED because the state of women is…dire.
And I am SO here for that all day every day. Whether or not it’s some special IG “day” or not.
And if you find this week’s podcast episode informative, go ahead and follow/subscribe and share with a friend! Keep the conversation going. Sharing is caring!
As always, I’ve got your back. I’ve got your front. And I’ve got your undercarriage.
