Whoa, what a title, amirite? I promise that’s what we are actually talking about and not some ploy to get you to open this email. I’ll give you some context…
In Spring of 2015 I auditioned for a musical improv team at the Magnet Theater (you definitely see this as being the segue did you?) and was cast on a team with magical human beings who became some of my closest, dearest, best friends. Beyond my teammates, I became part of the Magnet Theater community which is the most magical, accepting, safe place on earth alongside my Facebook group Mom’s Club of course.
A year later, my original team retired and I was cast on another team and was thrilled. I was put on a team filled with people I admire, respect, and could not wait to share the stage with. Smart, funny, energetic, supportive people who I went on to create musicals with every week for four years. The team had seven members, 5 men and 2 women. And guess what? The other woman was also a dancer, blonde, brilliant, we performed iconic choreography within the context of made up musicals countless times. Her name is Lane and she also happens to be this week’s podcast guest.
It wasn’t until our team retired that Lane opened up about her professional life outside theater. As you’ll hear in the episode, she too held some shame and stigma because of her work as a Financial Dominatrix. Yup! That’s a thing and she tells us all about it in this week’s episode.
What are you thinking right now? Are some of your judgments about sex work and sex and dominatrix coming up? It’s ok! We all have them! You’re not a bad person! We’ve been taught and conditioned to be good girls! The episode is incredible, Lane is incredible, and she also shares her #1 tip on embracing your own sexuality and I promise you it’s not what you expect. This is an invitation to learn a little more about sex work, the people who do it, and how this informs her confidence and sexuality in every facet of her life: on stage, off stage, in the bedroom, her finances, all of it. Also, she’s writing a comedy show about it!
