I don’t subscribe to the idea of “New Year New Me” or anything else like that.
Because every year I wake up on January 1 and I’m still me! The happily remarried divorcee who torn her two hole n childbirth the first time so opted for a belly birth the second time and is already back doing leaps and turn in dance class because she’s un-fucking-stoppable.
The same me carrying my childhood trauma through adulthood constantly reminding myself I’m safe now in this body and this life.
The same me who once got paid to sing and dance for audiences of thousands and now gets told to “STOP SINGING” but her children.
The same me who will legit poop my pants if I eat onions or garlic (thanks IBS) and lives a low FODMAP life.
I’m still me! And I’m NOT mad about it!
Guess what? I’m also older than I was yesterday AND I’M NOT MAD ABOUT THAT EITHER!
There are so many things in life that we cannot control like diarrhea, aging, and baby sleep patterns, but we can practice how we react to and tolerate this lack of control and that makes a HUGE difference.
Low tolerance = shitshow (like…literally. Thank you again IBS)
High tolerance = Broadway show (I can’t help myself and this joke is terrible)
The kicker is you can’t just decide to have a high tolerance for not having any control. You have to build it.
