I recently completed two hue Herculean lifts.
After a trip to Costco, I wanted to bring everything inside in one trip so with my arms full and a four year old yelling at me, I used the hand holding the Costco sized laundry detergent to reach up above my head and press the button to close the trunk. Talk about an overhead press in the wild!
AND...
I rallied my family to do something really hard.
If you’re reading this and you are a daughter, you may know or be able to imagine when the weight of…everything falls on you. In addition to caring for yourself, your kids (if you have them), your career, and relationship (if you’re in one) you’re also the point person for your family of origin.
It’s a heavy load.
And like the overhead press with the laundry detergent, it’s usually lopsided.
I talk a lot about working in alignment. And when I teach I talk a lot about symmetry. I use symmetry as a reference point, a tool, to create a sense of balance and equality in your body which is inherently asymmetrical.
Emotional labor ALSO tends to be asymmetrical.
Amirite?
And we are adaptable. We get so used to this asymmetrical, heavy AF load that it becomes normal. AND after lifting and carrying heavy things in a lopsided way it leaves us…out of whack. Literally and figuratively.
You know the feeling? I know you do.
All of this to say I’m feeling lopsided and out of whack. I need to even out and get centered again. To figure out exactly which pieces are out of place and guide them back home. To create space where space is needed and tighten up what needs tightening up. And I’m betting that as winter begins to wane and the sun is peeking out you’re noticing you’ve been carrying some heavy lopsided things too. You’re feeling a little off kilter too. Whether you're cockeyed in your hips or your perspective, let’s get on the mat with our foam rollers and sort it out!
Let’s redistribute the load. Because this whole narrative of women, mothers, daughter carrying the mental and emotional load is over.
Let's not get mad, let's get even. But like...let's even out your body.
